Information about Liz

My name is Liz and I have been working as a private tutor for almost seven years. I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2017 and have since been tutoring, starting off part-time around other commitments, before making the transition into working full-time as a professional tutor in 2020. At university, I studied Sociology on the HSPS course, as well as Japanese on the AMES course. Before university, I studied the International Baccalaureate, with Film, History and French as my High Level subjects and Biology, Maths and English as my Standard Level subjects. I am very passionate about helping students achieve their goals through tutoring.

Availability: Many weekday daytime slots available. Some evening slots, particularly Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Flexibly weekends. Out of term time, extremely flexibly available.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: In 2014, I worked as a clerical checker for OCR and Edexcel, giving me familiarity with exam boards. In 2015, I worked as a teaching assistant in an adult education GCSE Maths classroom with Aspire Sussex. Then, in 2017, I worked as a teaching assistant for the Downing Keio Summer School. I assisted in English language classes, held my own International Relations workshops and gave pastoral and one-on-one educational support to students.

After graduating, I started tutoring privately in October 2017. My experience includes entrance exam support, such as 11+, 13+, 16+, VR and NVR. All students I have supported have been offered places at their target schools, and two of these students even continued tuition with me, working on their English skills during the transition to the new school.

Relatedly, I have the most experience tutoring English as a subject, to all ages and abilities. All my students have seen improvement, whether in their national exam grades, school reports, or simply comprehension, engagement and daily abilities. My current English students range from intense, exam-focused grade improvements, to an adult learner improving her conversation skills, to a Year 8 student exploring her interest in dystopian fiction and modern drama.

My university degree has also lead me to tutor Sociology at all ages, particularly A Level and, occasionally, GCSE. I greatly enjoy this work, as it is a very approachable and fascinating subject to most students, as they can link it in with their experiences in society. I also help students with their university applications and Oxbridge interviews, focusing on HSPS.

Finally, due to my generalist background and passion for analysis, I support students with essay writing more broadly, finding work in EPQ technique, History preparation, and A Level Economics preparation. Recently, I have worked at a Easter camp at Wells Cathedral College leading classes in A Level Economics, and intend to travel to Shenzhen for a summer camp introducing the subject to Chinese students aged 14-17 later this year. Students tend to find clarity and direction with my support, learning how to build and substantiate arguments in their subjects.

Liz is a responsible person, she always designs some tasks for my daughter to do to know her learning progress and goes through with her patiently.

My daughter has found Liz very helpful - it’s also great that the lessons are online as we don’t live near to her. Liz is very friendly, easy to talk and explains the subject well.
