My main goal as your teacher will be to do everything possible for you to reach your full potential. With this in mind we will work on developing a good technique, always in a tension-free manner, focusing on tone production, dexterity of fingers, good intonation and good posture. As technique and music go hand-by-hand, I will make sure you are always working on a nice piece and perhaps you even have some on a wish list...?´You`ll be encouraged to make music from the very first day. Together with some necessary music theory, always applied to the instrument, you`ll learn pieces of gradual difficulty. We make use of progressive tuition methods and you`ll learn a solid technique by playing scales, bowing and fingering exercises and easy tunes to begin with. Repertoire includes etudes, playful and challenging concert pieces and from the very beginning duos to play with the teacher.

Experience: Portuguese violinist Joana started playing the violin aged 4 at the Conservatoire in Aveiro with Ana Sofia Mota, then at ANSO, Lisbon. She did a Masters Degree at the Royal College of Music, London, with Radu Blidar. She has attended numerous Festivals including Harmus, Stift, Aurora Chamber Music and Lake District, and participated in Masterclasses given by distinguished professors such as Gordan Nikolic, Daniel Rowland, Margaret Faultless and the Chilingirian Quartet.
Joana has regularly performed with Garsington Opera, Britten Sinfonia, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, working with international conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Edward Gardner, Roger Norrington and Antonio Pappano.
Recent projects included the full cycle of Beethoven`s Sonatas and the creation of the Islington Festival of Music and Art that is having its second edition this July 2022.
