I hold a B.SC(Hons) degree in Chemistry, a B.Sc degree in Mathematics and post graduate degrees in Organic Chemistry. I have worked as a Senior Research Chemist for a major pharmaceutical company for more than 30 years before retiring in 2009. I have been tutoring for many years and since my retirement,I am doing it full time.

I teach the following subjects:
Chemistry: GCSE, AS/A level and University students.
Specialist subject: Organic Chemistry.
Biology: GCSE, AS/A level
Maths: Lower secondary, GCSE and A level

Availability: Available 7 days a week and any time that can be arranged by appointment.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have more years experience in teaching chemistry to students from GCSE to University level.I have helped students to achieve complete success in their exams. I am highly experienced coaching students from various boards such as OCR (Chem A), OCR Salters, AQA, EDEXEL and IB.

Here is our feedback for John on his work with Gemma for her A Level Chemistry.....

John rang us quickly after our initial email, to find out exactly what our requirements were. John was very flexible in allowing Gemma to choose what she wanted to focus on each session and not expecting commitment to a certain number of sessions. Two hours was a good session length to work through an AS or A2 paper and John both helped with how to phrase answers and also taught in more depth about the answer, to ensure Gemma had thorough understanding of the concepts. Working with John has certainly improved her confidence.

Mr John has been my daughter’s Chemistry tutor for the last 6 months.We have found him to be very knowledgeable and helped her to understand concepts better.He also is very good in explaining difficult topics and also navigating through revision papers and explaining what needs to be done to improve grades.He is very patient and kind which sets him apart.My daughter is an AS student and this has reflected in her grades and confidence.He is an outstanding teacher and I have no hesitation recommending him.

Hope you and your family are well and you are all enjoying India! We had a wonderful time in India and returned on Saturday night. I tried to call you yesterday and my mum reminded me that you must still be in India.

I achieved A AA! I got the A overall in Chemistry that I wanted. I am now accepted into St George`s University of London and will be started from 23rd September.

John has helped my son with Chemistry A level since October last year in order to get his Grade from a C to a B. Since working with John, my son`s grades have improved tremendously - even to a Grade A in one of his exams this January. John tailors his tutorials exactly to the needs of the student, taking time to ensure that each area is fully understood. My son`s teachers noticed a difference in my son`s classwork within weeks of seeing John, commenting that his confidence and understanding had improved even at that early stage. Tutoring Approach:
I like to work on areas where the students need specific attention rather than systematically going through the whole syllabus. I encourage students to work out past papers giving special attention to appropriate mark schemes. So it is very much hands-on, ensuring that the students have fully understood the fundamentals so that they have full confidence in handling the questions.
