Information about Callum
I am a young, dynamic teacher working as a Head of Humanities at a Prep school in Hampstead, London. I have been working in education since January 2017 and achieved qualified teacher status in 2018 after training at the Ofsted Outstanding Alban Federation, based at Sandringham School in St. Albans. I am currently responsible for the Humanities Department at a school in Hampstead, where I teach History and Geography.
I am incredibly passionate about the Humanities and regularly attend CPD sessions, teach meets and attend webinars to ensure I am at the cutting edge of pedagogy. I love teaching, and fostering a love of learning and intellectual curiosity in my pupils. In my current role, I am responsible for managing teachers within the department and designing curriculums and assessment in History, Georgraphy and Religious Education. As well as this, I am responsible for gathering data, monitoring students and planning interventions to ensure student progress.
I have also been responsible for running scholarship sessions to support students applying for some of the most selective schools in London, and the UK. In my scholarship experience, I have helped students prepare for interviews and applications at St. Pauls, Westminster, Tonbridge, Downside and Eton. My most recent student achieved an A* in History and an A in Geography (2024 application). I also run a Debating Society, focusing on improving the engagement of students with current affairs, as well as to develop oracy and public speaking.
Availability: Mon-Fri afterschool/evenings.
Weekends are available if requested but may be at a higher rate.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I was educated at Dame Alice Owen`s School where I achieved ABB at A-Level as well as 11 GCSEs including 3 A`s and 7 B`s. This enabled me to attend the University of Birmingham, where I graduated with a 2.1 (hons) degree. I then worked in London in the hospitality sector as well as in the music industry.
I have seven years of teaching experience up to A level. In my current post, I have undergone an ISI inspection and an Inspection by the Catholic Diocese. The most recent inspection recognised that my department was `Outstanding` in our Teaching and Learning and acknowledged both curriculum and leadership as such.
I have a passion and love for the Humanities that impacts on every aspect of my teaching. In my own time I attend CPD training to ensure I am following the latest developments in my subject area. As well as this, I attend history teacher meets to share, compare and contrast the latest methods and using research to inform the lessons I plan.
I would be very excited to discuss any tutoring opportunity! Please do get in touch if you have any questions at all.
