Information about Hugh
I am friendly, approachable and enthusiastic.
As a recent music graduate from the University of Sussex (2018), I am passionate about a huge range of musical forms and genres; from classical and more traditional music all the way through to jazz, funk, soul and modern pop.
Saxophone is my first instrument, however I also play drums, and would love to teach that too!
Availability: I am free most evenings of the week, some days and afternoons. Please get in contact to discuss availability, I can be flexible with my other job if arranged in advance!
Willing to travel: 4 miles
Experience: I have recently graduated from sussex uni with a 1st class music degree where I focused on performance and production and have played in a huge variety of bands and ensembles. Over the past 5 years this includes; jazz big bands, saxophone quartets, musical theatre pit bands and modern jazz/pop bands. I have also received saxophone tuition from Mick Foster at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for the past 3 years as part of my degree.
Alongside my studies I have been teaching saxophone in Brighton for the past two years to people of varying ages and abilities. Some people wanted to focus on classical graded examinations and others wanted to learn more about jazz and improvisation while not doing exams. Lessons are tailored to the individual student and their interests as I am passionate about all saxophone playing!
No one is too young or old to start from scratch, pick up their instrument after a long time collecting dust or take their current playing further, boost their confidence and broaden their skills.
