Information about Lydia
I tutor Mathematics and English from primary to A level. My specialty is 11+ and 13+ preparation, including grammar school exams (Maths, English, Creative Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning) and entrance exams for independent schools. I have recently begun to offer short-term preparation sessions for the CAT (a test often used in schools to place students into sets) to help familiarise students with the unusual question styles.
I am a Financial Mathematics graduate from the University of Surrey and I currently work as the Quality Manager for an ed-tech startup who deliver educational resources, videos and exercises online. I have a passion for education and enjoy helping students to achieve their potential and broaden their knowledge. I am friendly and approachable and have been a tutor for over 10 years, so I come with a wealth of experience. I believe that, especially after such turbulent times in schooling, building students` confidence is the key to progress and academic success. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my methods, tuition style or would like to know more.
Availability: Please get in touch re: my availability, as eleven plus/ entrance exams for 2024 entry are now complete.
Please note, the sessions I deliver all take place online.
Willing to travel: 50 miles
Experience: From a young age I worked as an assistant at Kumon, and have tutored privately for many years. I previously held the role of Operations Manager for an out-of-hours education provider, Totus Education Ltd. During my time working for the company, I wrote educational resources, workshops, courses and mock exams. These included Creative Writing Workshops, Comprehension Worskhops, CEM specific courses, eleven plus mock exams and an Intensive Course for both English and Maths. I also have published books including `A Guide to Creative Writing`, `Creative Writing Workbook`, `Vocabulary Booster` and `Helping Hand Maths`.
During my time at university, while studying Mathematics, I branched out to tutor students in Maths and English from KS1 to KS5. I have coached several students through their KS2 SATs, GCSEs, A Levels and for general improvement and/or moving up a set at school. I tailor my tutoring style to each student`s individual needs, as education does not have a one size fits all approach.
During the period of time rife with Covid-19 lockdowns, I lead a programme of intervention & support sessions in Maths and English for students aged 11-16, in order to assist those who had fallen behind academically due to circumstances surrounding Covid-19. I worked with students who had fallen behind their peers in addition to those who were not meeting their individual targets. I worked with multiple SEN students and have a Level 2 Qualification in Specific Learning Difficulties, including but not limited to ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.
I currently work at an ed-tech startup, as the Quality Manager for educational materials. I check and edit materials written by many content creators to verify they are accurate, precise and deliver the topics in an understandable way. I have extensive experience with students across the spectrum of abilities, and this allows me to verify whether the material is being delivered in a way that students will identify with, and that it meets the needs of students across the board.

Lydia is a very thorough and patient tutor. She pays great attention to homework to identify the week spots and tackle them in the next session. She`s also friendly and approachable, which is of course very important when working with children. I can highly recommend Lydia for 11+ tutoring.

Over the past year Lydia has been an excellent tutor for Son. The 11+ tutoring has been of an extremely high standard and we have been able to see the progress each week. Lydia was great at building a solid relationship with my Son and her communication skills were outstanding. She was always on hand to answer any questions, I would highly recommend.
