Information about Olivia
Hi there, I`m Olivia! I teach general English to asylum seekers and refugees within my local community (at the local library and British Red Cross hub). My lessons encourage high levels of student participation, focusing on key aspects of lexis and grammar, as well as the crucial skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. The class size normally ranges from 10-15 students, and accommodates individuals of all different needs and abilities. My lesson plans and resources are all self-made, as I feel this provides a more tailored approach towards learning.
When I`m not teaching, I assist other ESOL teachers with their classes. This includes providing one-to-one reading support to individuals with no formal education, using the well-known phonics programme Sounds-Write. It is always a privilege to see the students` improvement, as well as the sheer joy they feel at learning to read independently.
Through my reputation as a `good teacher`, I have also gained experience in private tutoring. For example, I recently prepared a teenage student for the transition into mainstream education, and continue to support two primary aged children in improving their comprehension skills.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. Please see below for a summary of my qualifications and experience.
