Information about Katie
I have just graduated with a high 2.1 from University of Cambridge in Human Social and Political Sciences, specialising in Politics and International Relations. I was awarded the Rowley Mainhood prize for academic excellence by Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge and was elected to be a Senior Scholar by the fellows at the University. I am currently working at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on their competitive graduate internship programme. I am proud to have been offered places on the Civil Service Diplomatic Fast Stream and Generalist Fast Stream. I have however turned these down to start a training contract with a leading City law firm in October.
I am friendly, supportive and hardworking. I really enjoy helping students to grow in confidence and excel at the subjects I find so fascinating.
I can provide personal statement and Oxbridge interview help for any humanity subject.
I can tutor up to Degree Level in History, Politics and Citizenship up to A level/Pre-U in Maths and up to (I)GCSE level in English Language, Literature and Religious Philosophy.
I also offer 12+ entrance exam preparation, having successfully sat the 12+ entrance exams at leading public and grammar schools in Dorset.
Availability: I have a lot of availability as I have a two month gap between finishing at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and starting the Graduate Diploma in Law in October. The GDL has very few contact hours and so I will continue to have extremely flexible hours and will be available everyday.
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: I have a lot of experience tutoring up to degree level. My current role at the heart of British government makes me well placed to offer insights into IR, British politics, comparative politics and political theory, essential for bringing classroom study to life. I regularly refresh my knowledge my attending in-house seminars on Brexit and Middle Eastern politics at the FCO, as well as a variety of Chatham House events.
I have worked in an America summer camp which involved teaching children aged 8-16 dinghy sailing, looking after a cabin of 10 young girls and running journalism classes.
I have also had success in advising on University applications, both in personal statement and interview preparation. I have also helped to fellow graduates to secure places on the Civil Service Fast Stream and FCO Graduate Internship programme.
I have written for the Guardian and BBC News online and completed internships at BBC Radio 4 and the Observer. I was also nominated for the IARS International Young Journalist of the Year award.
