Information about Mike
My teaching of adults starts with the student. We decide what the individual aim is, what repertoire is enjoyable, what techniques need improving and design an individual tailored programme that meets the needs.
I started as a classical clarinetist, turning to jazz saxophone at university. I am an accomplished piano, keyboard and organist, having been director of music of several churches over the last 25 years, including starting a new choir in Bournemouth, developing an existing choir in Warlingham, and coalescing a formal choir and music group in Nutfield. I have taught in girls grammar schools, been head of music in mixed comprehensive and Director of Music and Senior Teacher in a boys Independent School. I founded and directed a community big band, dixieland band and various other jazz combos, playing professionally for named bands in the UK.
Availability: Available Monday to Saturday weekly, with spaces subject to change. Busy teacher, keen to take on the next new talent. Age is no barrier!
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I have been a teacher for 25 years, teaching Adults from beginner to professional standard. Several current professionals started with me, and I have had students go to Oxford, Trinity Colleg of Music and other universities. I am an experienced classical and jazz musician, and have directed several bands with a UK and International reputation, Big Bands, Dixieland bands and various Jazz combos. I play saxophone, clarinet and piano, but specialise in teaching and promoting.
