Information about Ashley

Former King’s College London medical student
BSc (Hons) Physiology graduate
10 years + tutoring experience

Outstanding and professional personal tutor dedicated towards unlocking you or your childs’ potential. 10 years + tutoring experience has taught me that there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring: each individual learns in distinct ways and at their own pace. I endeavour, where appropriate, to adapt the relevant curriculum to your or your child’s individual style of learning. More importantly, I will empower them with confidence, work ethic and revision aids to enable them to succeed by themselves.

I approach tutoring from four angles: first and foremost is understanding - can you/your child explain in your/their own words what they have learnt?, second is working towards examinations - have you/your child completed sufficient examination questions to know what is expected of you/them?, third is applying knowledge – do you/ your child know how to apply your/their knowledge to real-world scenarios? and fourth is expanding knowledge – can you/ your child tell me more about the topic beyond the scope of the curriculum?

The first tutorial is dedicated towards building rapport and assessing current progress. This may be achieved through completion of a past paper examination. This allows us to identify strong and weak subject areas; prioritising topics where more work is needed.

I adapt my teaching style: didactic or facilitative to the individual student, with the ideal that they should be the master of their own education.

I pride myself on supplementing learning with my own resources (e.g. engaging PowerPoints, DIY DNA models, word-matching games and quick quizzes). This has proven useful in topics which require a high degree of visualisation (e.g. the anti-parallel double-stranded structure of DNA or the 3D structure of transition metal complexes) or a high degree of knowledge retention.

I provide analogies, diagrams and anecdotes to aid learning of complex topics (e.g. the flow of water to explain electricity)

Where appropriate, I challenge my students with questions that go beyond the scope of the syllabus and encourage them to question concepts they do not fully understand. This can often lead to discussions about anomalies in long-established theories.

I expect students to be organised; a must when time is limited and exams are fast approaching!

I expect students to complete homework in a timely manner to consolidate their learning. The homework is corrected and any issues rectified the following week.

I make myself available to students via email, so any subject-related questions are met with prompt replies.

Tutoring is a passion: I get joy from imparting knowledge onto others and watching them succeed!

I must say i have chosen the right tutor. My son was never soo excited before, as he loves Ashley and the lesson. We also can see some changes of my son`s progress, he is able to do his homework by himself now and he is enjoying learning new things. I am happy with tutor hunt for finding me the right choice in very quick time. Ashley could easily find the gaps and he gives appropriate work in 2 hrs time for English and maths. Every week he updates the report what was covered and the homework which is easy to complete. Therefore i highly recommend Ashley for other parents.
