Why Was Kaiser Wilhelm Forced Out In 1918?
Date : 19/02/2024
Wilhelm was forced out for 3 reasons:
1. Troops were beginning to mutiny (Kiel for example).
2. Increasing disorder on the streets as hungry people started creating their own local governments (workers and soldier councils modelled on communist Russia).
3. The Americans refused to negotiate an armistice until Kaiser Wilhelm had abdicated.
Politicians in the Reichstag were very
worried a full scale communist revolution could break out at any minute and were desperate to end the war to prevent this. So when the American President, Woodrow Wilson, said he would not discuss an armistice until the Kaiser was
removed, Wilhelms fate was sealed.
